DVDs

We are pleased to introduce a range of DVDs designed to complement our Project Teaching Packs and to aid teachers explain some of the more complex processes in the classroom. These DVDs can be used alone, but we highly recommend that they be used in conjunction with the Project Teaching Packs, which provide more in-depth information on the processes and contain many additional ideas. Each DVD includes teachers' guidance notes.

Wax batik in the classroom    

This 50 minute long DVD guides you through the process of making exciting wax batiks in the classroom using a sea-life theme as an example. You can follow the whole process, including:
 

 

 

Creating your design
Making and using stencils
Preparing and stretching the fabric
Transferring the design onto the fabric
Adding dye and wax in a number of stages
Using a T-janting
Finishing the batik
 

We also show you examples of other finished batiks, including those completed by children.

Teachers' notes are included with the DVD.     

This wax batik DVD is ideal for children at Key Stages 2 and 3. Children can be shown the whole DVD or the process can be introduced to them stage by stage.

The DVD can be used as a stand alone guide but it is recommended that it be used in conjunction with our Wax Batik Project Teaching Pack, which provides ideas for a range of other wax batiks with full materials lists, time planning, the history of batik, and other ideas.

Screen-printing in the classroom    

This 54 minute long DVD guides you through the process of screen-printing onto T-shirts in the classroom with five different design ideas. You can follow the whole process, including:


 

 

 

The principles of screen-printing

The design process

Cutting stencils

The screen-printing process
 

Five different design ideas are explained in detail and the film follows each stage in detail for each project.  There are simple designs for younger children and more complex, multi-stencil designs for older pupils. There are also ideas for further projects.
