Wax Batik Project Teaching Pack - Key Stage 2  ISBN: 0-9552832-1-3 2nd edition

This Project Teaching Pack has been totally reviewed and enlarged for the second edition.

This is an exciting project pack that includes the wonderful textile printing process of 'resist-dying' wax batik. Our experience of teaching this craft has helped us develop an easy method for applying and using wax. This is fully explained in the Project Teaching Pack which is suitable for Key Stage 2 and beyond. Because this Project Teaching Pack uses the wax-resist batik method it is not suitable for use with younger children. For Key Stage 1 we recommend our African-method batik, which does not use wax.  A separate Project Teaching Pack is available for this method.

The key to any batik is the design theme and this is explained in detail with a range of proven ideas for work.  Suggestions are included for equipment and materials to ensure that children can produce exciting results. Many examples of children's work are included in the pack and some more are shown in the photo gallery

This 67 page resource pack contains instructions for 4 different batik projects, detailed photographs of children doing batik, and many examples of children's artwork.  There are also numerous design ideas and photographs of batiks which can be used for display.  With the exception of consumable materials and equipment the pack includes everything necessary to make beautiful batiks and provides guidance for further work.

This 67 page A4 pack contains over 60 full colour photographs, plus other illustrations and includes the following:

    History of batik
    Working to a theme
Batik books and other reference sources
    Batik materials and equipment explained
Time planning for this topic in the school curriculum
Art vocabulary to use in this project
    Batik design work
    Classroom preparation
    Stages of wax batik
    Using dyes
    Using a T-janting
    Project 1: Leaf batik
Project 2: Variations on leaf batik
    Project 3: Four seasons batik
    Project 4: Shell theme batik
Links to QCA units and further ideas

The pages of the Project Teaching Pack are in individual plastic sleeves to protect them against spills and damage in the classroom. The pack is in a sturdy loose-leaf folder and the A4 pages can be used for display.

In response to requests from teachers we have produced a CD which includes all of the images in this pack. This can be used with an interactive white board or other computer-based display system so large groups of children can view process photographs and reference pictures.  Order with your packs.

We are pleased to introduce a 50 minute DVD explaining the wax batik process in full, using a sea-theme as an example. The DVD is available at a discounted price of only £15 when ordered with the Wax batik Project Teaching Pack. More information.........
